Let me ask you: When was the last time you talked about the real estate market, about the cost of buying an apartment, about bank instalments, about rent?
The real estate market is a powerful investment sector. One of the safest investment sectors, as most media articles tell us. Such opinions remain strong also for Romania, where 1/3 of the territory (including the capital) are under seismic hazard. But have you considered how many people are working for this safety to exist?
Just last year 60.000 new housing units were completed, and the volume of office spaces delivered has doubled in the first 9 months, compared with the similar period of the previous year.
The other days, a business partner told me about his new apartment. He had just paid the deposit. He was excited and full of hope. I asked no questions about price, but I did ask him about safety. Classic, you’d say, for a structural engineer. And I would add: it is a beautiful piece of evidence showing a profession done with great passion, one that I share with my fellow colleagues.
Let’s be honest: we are all trying to do better. And now, we’re in a more and more volatile, unpredictable general context. Safety is a more and more sought for resource; everywhere. We seek to invest our money in safe developments and in our homes as well we’re hoping to be safe.
What stands in safety’s way, who can control the vulnerability?
Find out on 9th and 11th of February 2022 at JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel
An association of 1000 members, from which 130 technical experts, actively contributed with over 1200 hours, voluntary, only in the last 5 years, for safety to be a reality in the construction industry – Romanian Association of Structural Design Engineers (AICPS).
The experience years taught us that too many people are unaware, still, of the risks they expose themselves to when they choose to buy only based on the lowest price.
However, we see the construction market becoming more mature as we have more and more well informed buyers. AICPS participated, with each occasion, and also initiated public consultations for a more professional and transparent design field. We are happy to be part of this change.
We know structural design engineering is a field looked upon as being very technical, full of regulations, with a lot of numbers and calculus. But we’re not hiding behind them.
I invite you to discover another world beyond all this. A community of enthusiastic and dedicated professionals. A pro-active community, working year by year to optimize both buildings’ structures and the technical data base – regulations and laws, in which us and you all invest the energy, each time we hope for a safe home, office, a safe life in and between the buildings we spend 90% of our time in.
At JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel, on 9th and 11th of February 2022, AICPS proudly celebrates 30 years of continuous activity. The event coincides also with the 30th edition of our association’s conference. We’ll have remarkable foreign guests: experts in seismic risk and advanced risk calculation technologies and company founders, coming from New Zealand and USA.
Join us, AICPS, and our partners to the central event of 2022, about safety, now and in the future, a common powerful goal for the 21st century.
Lucian Melinceanu, President of AICPS
